A Cool Story

Did you know that Olympia Fields Country Club was the catalyst for the existence of the Village of Olympia Fields?

Olympia Fields – the village – was founded a full 12 years after Olympia Fields Country Club members hit their first tee shots in 1915, and three years after the club opened the doors of its iconic clubhouse for the first time.

In those early years, club members dreamed of creating their own town. It started with the Illinois Central “Golf Special” train that stopped at the club. Before long, the club added a school, hospital, fire station and more to tend to the cottages dotting the property as well as a small surrounding community of farmers.

But the most ingenious enterprise was an ice-making facility that churned out high-quality ice used for everything from preserving food to keeping cocktails cold. It was truly an essential amenity in what was then the middle of nowhere.

That ice plant – and the dream behind it – is the inspiration for the Icehouse and “The Iceman” brand. These specialty logos capture a moment frozen in time, preserving a piece of history unique to the home of the 2023 BMW Championship. True to Olympia Fields Country Club’s tradition of giving back, all proceeds from “The Iceman” brand will benefit the Evans Scholars Foundation and youth caddies.

It’s a testament to a country club so vast in scope – and a membership with such clear vision – that it gave birth to an entire village.

The Icehouse is open during the 2023 BMW Championship, Thursday, August 17 to Sunday, August 20. Enter the clubhouse on the driving range side of the building and present your invitation.
